Nov. 8, 2011

Los Angeles, Calif. - Women's soccer player Charney Burk, and men's soccer players Ryan Hollingshead and Chandler Hoffman were all named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District Teams as announced by the organization.

Hollingshead, a junior midfielder from Granite Bay, Calif., has appeared in 15 matches for the Bruins this season, starting in 13 of them. He has two goals and three assists thus far, including two-game winning goals at home against Stanford and at Washington. He also played a key role in helping the Bruins win their seventh Pac-12 Championship this season. Ryan has a 3.59 GPA as a Psychology major and was a Second-Team Pac-10 All-Academic member a year ago.

Chandler Hoffman has had a great season for the Bruins both on and off the field. On the field, he leads the Pac-12 in goals (14), points (32), goals per game (0.74) and points per game (1.68). He has started in every game this season and had his best game against No. 6 UC Santa Barbara in September, scoring three goals in the second half to lead UCLA to a 3-2 comeback win. Off the field, Chandler has a 3.74 GPA as a Communication Studies major and made the First-Team Pac-10 All-Academic squad in 2010.

Burk, a midfielder from North Tustin, Calif., has appeared in 15 of 19 matches for UCLA this season, helping the team to a No. 2 seeding in the upcoming NCAA Tournament and an overall record of 15-1-3. She assisted on the game-winning goal in a 1-0 victory over Rutgers earlier in the season and recently added another assist in an 8-0 victory over Colorado. Last season, she was one of just seven players on the team to appear in all 23 matches for the Bruins. Off the field, the Biology major owns a 3.92 overall grade point average. She has been a member of the UCLA Dean's List (3.5 GPA & above) every quarter since transferring from the University of Portland following her sophomore season.
