Divers Begin Season on Friday/Saturday at Trojan Invitational

Oct. 31, 2007

The Bruin divers will head to USC this Friday and Saturday for the Trojan Diving Invitational. It is the first meet of the season for the divers who are eager to open up the 2007-2008 competition year.

Leading the team this season are All-Americans Marisa Samaniego and Tess Schofield. The duo has a multitude of experience and talent, and will have to fill the shoes of recently graduated Sara Clark and Amanda Blong.

Also competing will be Shannon Pirozzi and Morgan Erpenbeck and Laura Winn. Erpenbeck redshirted last season as she recovered from wrist surgery.

"I am looking forward to seeing this team compete," said dive coach Tom Stebbins. "It has been a long time since we haven't had Sara and Amanda leading the charge, so it really opens up a new chapter for our program. I believe Marisa and Tess are willing and ready to step in and take on those roles of leader.

"As for the rest of the team, everyone has worked very hard to give themselves the chance to be great. This is the first in a three week swing of meets, where we will truly get to evaluate where we are at in our training. I am very hopeful that we will execute the skills we have developed during the past eight weeks of practice.
