UCLA Women's Water Polo Earns No. 2 Seed in NCAA Tournament

LOS ANGELES - The UCLA women's water polo team has secured the No. 2 seed in the eight-team NCAA Tournament and will face No. 7-seed Iona (24-11) in the first round on Friday, May 11, at San Diego State.

UCLA has earned its eighth consecutive berth to the NCAA Tournament. The Bruins captured the No. 2 seed this spring after having advanced as the No. 3 seed the past three years. UCLA will face No. 7-seed Iona at 12 p.m. on Friday, May 11.

The Bruins (21-3) won the MPSF Tournament championship on Sunday, defeating Stanford in overtime, 8-7. The Cardinal earned the NCAA Tournament's No. 1 seed after having won the MPSF regular season crown.

UCLA will make its 11th appearance in the 12-year history of the NCAA Championships. In the 18-year history of UCLA's program, the Bruins have won 11 national titles (seven NCAA) and have advanced to the national tournament in 17 seasons (including 2012).

In 10 NCAA Tournament appearances, the Bruins have won seven NCAA Championships, compiling a 24-3 cumulative record. UCLA has posted a combined 47-6 record in 16 trips to the annual national tournament.

The winner of the UCLA-Iona match will face either No. 3-seed USC (21-5) or No. 6-seed Princeton (28-4) in a semifinal contest on Saturday, May 12.
