LOS ANGELES - Playing in her final regular season home match on Sunday, defender Lauren Barnes made her Senior Day one to remember, scoring the game-winning goal in a 2-0 victory over Washington State at Drake Stadium. With the win, the Bruins improve to 10-7-1 overall and 3-4 in Pac-10 play. The Cougars fall to 6-13 and 1-7 in league action.

"I think this was awesome for the seniors first and foremost," said UCLA head coach Jillian Ellis on the win. "In the locker room we talked about this day being about them and trying to honor them. We did that. It was a good win today that's for sure."

Barnes, who was used primarily in an offensive role on Sunday, scored her game-winning goal at the 22:06 mark of the first half after Charney Burk won a head ball at mid-field. With no defenders pressuring her, Barnes took the ball and sprinted towards the goal, eventually scoring on a left-footed strike to the lower-right corner. It marked the seventh goal of her Bruin career and fourth this season.

After taking a 1-0 lead into the half, the Bruins added an insurance goal in the 60th minute on a header in the box by freshman Jenna Richmond. Zakiya Bywaters and Iman Bearde were credited with assists on that goal. It was Richmond's fifth goal of the season, as she ranks second on the team in scoring with 14 points (5g, 4a).

"We put a lot of shots on the board and had a lot of good chances," added Ellis. "I was just pleased for us to find the back of the net. It's a confidence builder. Every game is the most important game for us at this point. This was a good way to move forward."

Washington State's best chance on the day came in the 79th minute when Emma Stolz launched a long ball that bounced off the crossbar before being cleared by a Bruin defender.

Junior Sydney Leroux nearly got in the scoring column on Sunday, however her shot off a breakaway in the 16th minute was just saved by Cougar goalkeeper Ariana Byrd.

UCLA out-shot Washington State, 16-5 on the day. Bruin goalkeeper Chante' Sandiford picked up the win, making three saves.

In addition to Barnes, seniors Liz Zadro, Taylor Cochran, Kylie Wright, Elise Britt, Dana Wall and Iman Bearde all saw action in their final regular-season home game on Sunday. Senior team manager Kerry Bradley was also honored prior to the match. The National Anthem was sung by Britt, Wall and Sandiford.

UCLA rounds out the regular season next week in Arizona. The Bruins' next match is at Arizona on Friday at 7:00 p.m.
