WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - The UCLA softball team has been by the Pacific-10 softball coaches to finish second in the 2007 Pac-10 standings. UCLA received 45 points and three first place votes in the annual coaches poll, just two points behind Arizona, who received 47 points and five first place votes.
Arizona State was third with 35 points, Oregon State fourth with 32 and Stanford was chosen fifth (21). California and Washington tied for sixth place with 18 points apiece and Oregon was eighth with eight points.
The top four teams in the Coaches Poll all participated in the 2006 Women's College World Series. UCLA is the defending Pac-10 Champion, finishing 15-5 in Conference play a year ago. It was the ninth Conference title for the Bruins, who finished 50-9 and were the top seed in the NCAA Tournament last year.
UCLA, under first-year head coach Kelly Inouye-Perez, opens its 2007 season on Friday, February 9, at the Kajikawa Classic in Tempe, Ariz.
