UCLA Baseball Selected Fourth in Preseason Pac-12 Poll

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - The UCLA baseball team was picked to finish fourth in the Pac-12 Conference's preseason coaches' poll, as announced by the conference office on Tuesday.

Stanford was selected first in the preseason coaches' poll, garnering 10 of 11 possible first-place votes. Arizona, Arizona State and UCLA rounded out the top four selections, respectively. Arizona State received the remaining first-place vote.

Oregon State was picked fifth, followed by California, Oregon and USC. Washington State, Washington and Utah, respectively, rounded out the conference's 11 teams in the preseason poll.

UCLA won the then-Pac-10 Conference title in 2011, earning its first outright conference championship since 1986.

Six of 10 teams represented the Pac-12 in the NCAA Tournament last season, while eight of 10 teams advanced to the NCAA Tournament in 2010.

UCLA went 35-24 last spring, posting an 18-9 record in conference play. The Bruins were selected first in last year's preseason coaches' poll.

UCLA opens its 2012 season against Maryland on Friday, Feb. 17. Game time of the series opener is 6 p.m. at Jackie Robinson Stadium.

The Pac-12 preseason coaches' poll awards 10 points for a first-place vote, nine points for a second-place vote, eight points for a third-place vote and so on. Coaches are not allowed to vote for their own teams.
