Three UCLA players competing in the 109th U.S. Women's Amateur Championship Wednesday at Old Warson CC in St. Louis easily advanced to the second round of match play.

Sophomore Stephanie Kono, senior Sydnee Michaels and incoming freshman Tiffany Lua had little trouble with their opponents and each won her match prior to the 15th hole.

Kono went home after the 12th hole, defeating Alexandra Stewart of Peoria, Ariz., 7&6. She was 5-up after nine holes and played 12 holes in two-under par while Stewart failed to make a birdie.

Michaels won holes three through seven, playing one-under par, to build a 5-up advantage and essentially wrap up the match.

Lua won an intriguing battle of local rivals, defeating Torrance native Jenny Shin, 4&3. After squaring the match with a par at the 6th hole, Lua won the 8th, 10th, 12th and 14th holes to slam the door.
