TUCSON, Ariz. - UCLA sophomore right-handed pitcher Adam Plutko has secured third-team preseason All-America honors from Louisville Slugger, as announced Tuesday by Collegiate Baseball.

Plutko earned All-Pac-10 Conference honors as a freshman in 2011, going 7-4 with a 2.01 ERA. He totaled 92 strikeouts and 24 walks in 107.2 innings, limiting the opposition to a .193 batting average.

Plutko was one of two freshmen in the conference to earn All-Pac-10 acclaim last season, along with Oregon State designated hitter Kavin Keyes.

Hailing from Upland, Calif., Plutko captured Freshman All-America accolades from Louisville Slugger/Collegiate Baseball last spring, in addition to earning first-team Freshman All-America honors from Baseball America and second-team acclaim from the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA).

UCLA's baseball team has been ranked No. 19 in Collegiate Baseball's preseason top-40 poll, the weekly newspaper announced on Monday.

The Bruins open the 2012 season against Maryland on Friday, Feb. 17. Game time at UCLA's Jackie Robinson Stadium is 6 p.m.
