The Bruins concluded fall ball with three more wins against Cerritos College, College of the Canyons and Mt. San Antonio College. UCLA allowed just one hit in its six fall scrimmages and belted eight home runs.
Against Cerritos on Nov. 18, the Bruins were held to a pair of third-inning runs before exploding for 10 in the eighth and ninth when situational hitting took effect. Monica Harrison, Megan Langenfeld and Dani Yudin all hit home runs. Donna Kerr fanned 14 of the 15 batters she faced and Whitney Baker punched out eight in four innings of work. Neither pitcher allowed a hit for the duration of the contest.
Against College of the Canyons on Nov. 20, the Bruins scored seven times in the first, twice in the second, once more in the fourth and three times in the fifth to take a 13-0 lead. The final two and a half innings were played under situational hitting rules, with UCLA adding eight more runs. It was another no-hitter for the Bruins, as Kerr went the distance and struck out 15 in eight innings. Langenfeld and Amanda Kamekona both went yard.
In the fall ball finale on Nov. 21 against Mt. San Antonio College, UCLA scored nine times in the first four innings. Andrea Harrison drove in three of the runs on a two-run single and a bases-loaded walk. Baker struck out five in the first four innings before the game moved into situationals. The Bruins allowed their first hit of the fall in the later innings.
The 2009 regular season begins on Friday, Feb. 6 with the annual Stacy Winsberg Memorial Tournament. The Bruins host Pacific, Purdue, Cal Poly, Indiana and San Diego State.
