The fifth-ranked UCLA women's golf team was in 12th place on Monday following the first round of competition at the Regional Challenge at the Palos Verdes Country Club.
The Bruins posted a team score of 315 (+31) and trailed first round leader Pepperdine by 18 shots. Florida was second at 299 (+15), followed by Arizona State and Texas at 300 (+16). Arizona was fifth at 301 (+17). Tenth place Michigan State was just one shot ahead of UCLA at 314 (+30) and Ohio State was one shot behind at 316 (+32).
The top score for the Bruins came from senior Hannah Jun, who posted a two-over par 73 and was tied for seventh place. Sophomore Ryann O'Toole and freshman Sydnee Michaels each posted rounds of 80 (+9) and were tied for 49th place. In her first collegiate round, junior Maiya Tanaka posted a score of 82 (+11) and was tied for 62nd place. Sophomore Tiffany Joh recorded her worst collegiate round, a 12-over par 83 and was tied for 64th.
Playing as an individual, freshman Lalita Boonnoppornkul posted a first round score of 83 (+12).
