HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. - UCLA men's water polo head coach Adam Wright and former standout UCLA goalkeeper Chay Lapin have been named to the USA Men's Senior National Team roster for the upcoming 2011 FINA World League Super Final to be played June 21-26 in Florence, Italy.
Wright starred in the pool for the Bruins from 1997-2000 and will enter his third year as UCLA's head coach this summer. Lapin, 24, was a four-year starting goalkeeper for UCLA from 2006-09. Wright and Lapin are two of three players in program history to have earned All-MPSF Team honors all four seasons.
Wright, 34, has competed in two Olympics Games, leading Team USA to a seventh-place finish in 2004 at the Athens Olympics and to a second-place finish in 2008 at the Beijing Olympics.
Lapin will make his debut in FINA international competition with the USA Senior National Team after having competed for the USA Junior National Team at the 2007 World Championships. Lapin is one of two goalkeepers on the United States' roster, along with Team USA veteran Merrill Moses.
Team USA opens its schedule at the FINA World League Super Final on Tuesday, June 21, against Italy.
