Arizona State was picked to finish fourth, followed by Washington State and USC. California was tabbed seventh, and Oregon, Stanford and Oregon rounded out the 10 teams in the preseason poll.

UCLA was represented at the event by head coach Ben Howland and freshman center Joshua Smith. The Pac-10 Conference hosted its men's basketball media event at L.A. Live's Nokia Theatre in downtown Los Angeles.

The conference will have a special in-game presentation to the Wooden Family during the Pacific Life Pac-10 Basketball Tournament and has renamed the Pac-10 Coach of the Year Award in both men's and women's basketball to the John Wooden Coach of the Year Award.
