WOODLAND, Calif. - Senior defender Jillian Kraus of the top-ranked UCLA women's water polo team earned MIKASA MPSF Co-Player of the Week honors, the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation announced Monday. Kraus scored a team-leading nine goals in UCLA's three conference road victories last week.
Kraus, who has scored in each of UCLA's 13 matches this season, tied for the team lead with three goals in UCLA's 13-3 win at No. 10 UC Irvine on Friday evening. The Tustin, Calif., resident added two goals the following afternoon, leading UCLA past No. 16 Cal State Northridge, 10-5. In Sunday's MPSF contest at No. 14 Long Beach State, Kraus scored a team-high four goals to lead the Bruins to a 19-7 victory.
Kraus and junior attacker Katie Rulon are currently tied for the team lead with 30 goals in 13 matches.
The weekly accolades marks the third earned by a UCLA women's water polo play in four weeks. Rulon has twice been named MPSF Co-Player of the Week (weeks of Jan. 21-27, Feb. 4-10).
Kraus shares the weekly honor with USC's Michelle Stein, who scored seven goals in a pair of MPSF road wins.
The top-ranked Bruins (13-0, 3-0 MPSF) return to action against No. 16 Cal State Northridge at the UC Irvine Invitational on Saturday, Feb. 23. Game time is slated for 9 a.m. at Corona del Mar High School.
