Bruin Golfers Battling for the Lead in Two Tournaments

The UCLA men's golf Gold and Blue Teams were trailing the leaders in their respective tournaments after 36 holes on Monday.

At the Eugene Country Club, the Gold Team was in fourth place after two rounds in the Oregon Duck Invitational. The Bruins posted rounds of 291 (+3) and 296 (+8) for a score of 587 (+11). They trailed USC by 10 shots entering the final round. Oregon State was second at 579 (+3), followed by Oregon in third at 580 (+4). Arizona and Arizona State were tied for fifth at 590 (+14).

Individually, junior Kevin Chappell led the Gold Team with a 36-hole score of 142 (-2) after carding rounds of 72-70. Junior Daniel Im was tied for 17th at 148 (+4) and sophomore James Lee was tied for 31st at 150 (+6). Sophomore Lucas Lee was tied for 38th at 151 (+7) and junior Craig Leslie was tied for 52nd at 154 (+10). Sophomore Erik Flores was tied for 60th at 157 (+13). The tournament is a six, count four format.

The Blue Team, playing in the second Cal State Bakersfield Spring Invitational at the Bakersfield Country Club, posted scores of 284 (-4) and 289 (+1) for a three-under par total of 573. Cal State San Bernardino was the two round leader at 570 (-6) following rounds of 282 (-6) and 288 (E). Cal State Bakersfield and Point Loma Nazarene were tied for third at 575 (-1), followed by Fresno State at 586 (+10).

Individually for the Blue Team, freshmen Charlie Harris and Jason Kang were tied for second place at four-under par 140 (-4). Harris and Kang each posted a pair of 70s in the first two rounds. Senior Chris Heintz was tied for 11th place at 145 (+1) after rounds of 73-72. Junior Brandon Christianson was tied for 22nd 148 (+4) following rounds of 71-77.

Both tournaments will be completed on Tuesday.
