LOS ANGELES - Two months ago, Washington defeated UCLA in three sets in Seattle. On Friday night, the top-ranked Bruins exacted some revenge with a sweep of the 10th-ranked Huskies at the John Wooden Center. Set scores were 28-26, 25-13, 28-26. Junior Rachael Kidder led the Bruins with 19 kills, while sophomore Kelly Reeves added 18 digs.

The Bruins improve to 21-3 overall and remain in a tie for first in the Pac-12 with a 14-2 record. The Huskies fall to 18-5 and 10-5 in league.

Kidder added eight digs and hit .357, and was joined in double figures in kills by junior Tabi Love (12) and freshman Zoë Nightingale (10), who had just one error in 15 attempts for a .600 hitting percentage. Sophomore Mariana Aquino also had a good hitting night with nine kills and only one miscue in 14 swings (.571) to go with three blocks. Senior Lauren Van Orden posted 46 assists and six digs, senior Lainey Gera added 15 digs and junior Bojana Todorovic tallied 10 digs. The Bruins hit .390 for the match.

The first set featured 12 ties and seven lead changes, as the Bruins came back to take the opener. UCLA held an early 5-3 lead on two kills from Aquino and one apiece by Kidder, Love and Nightingale, but the Huskies responded with five of the next six to go up by a pair at 8-6. Washington would find its advantage grow to as many as five at 19-14, but UCLA scored the next seven to take a 21-19 edge. After a UW service error, a Nightingale kill, back-to-back spikes by Kidder and a Husky attack error evened the score at 19. Nightingale and Kidder then had consecutive kills to put the Bruins by a pair.

The Huskies bounced back with a 4-1 run to go ahead 23-22, and after two sideouts, had their first set point at 24-23. Love snuffed the first attempt with a kill and then gave the Bruins their first set point with another spike to make it 25-24. Washington came back with two in a row to earn a second set point, but a service error and a Kidder kill gave the Bruins their second set point. And of course it was Kidder who won the set with her team-leading ninth kill to complete a 28-26 victory. Love added five kills with no errors in 11 swings (.455), while Nightingale posted four kills and no miscues in six attempts (.667). Reeves had nine digs in the opener, while Van Orden produced five. The Bruins out-hit the Huskies .442 to .356.

The Huskies recorded two of the first three points of the second set, but five in a row by the Bruins gave them the lead for good. Kidder, Van Orden and Love had consecutive kills, Kidder added an ace and Love posted another kill to put the home squad up 6-2. Still up by four at 10-6, a Kidder kill, a Reeves solo block and a Reeves kill extended the advantage to seven at 13-6.

With the Bruins holding on to a 21-13 edge, they scored the final four points of the set to take the second 25-13. A Nightingale kill, one from Kidder and another by Nightingale gave the Bruins a slew of set points and a Reeves ace finished off a 12-point win. Kidder, Love and Nightingale each had four kills to lead the Bruins. Gera posted 10 digs, while Reeves and Todorovic both had five. The Bruins had four blocks as a team and out-hit the Huskies .350 to .057.

In a third set just as exciting as the first, which featured 13 ties and five lead changes, the Bruins completed the sweep. Down 5-4, the Bruins scored five straight on a UW service error, a Love solo block, a Husky attack error and back-to-back kills by Kidder and Nightingale to take a 9-5 lead. Washington battled back with the next four to tie things at nine, but after two sideouts made it 10-all, the Bruins netted four in a row on two kills by Aquino, one from Love and a UW attack error to take a 14-10 lead.

The roller coaster set continued with the Huskies recording the next four to tie things at 14, but kills by Todorovic and Kidder kept the Bruins in front 16-14. Up 19-18, the Bruins scored three in a row on a kill by Nightingale, a Washington ball handling error and a Todorovic kill to take a four-point advantage at 22-18. However, Washington tied things again with a 4-0 run to make it 22-all.

At 23-all, Washington scored on its serve to earn a set point at 24-23. But a Love kill and a Husky attack error gave the Bruins their first match point at 25-24. Washington stopped the first attempt, but an Aquino kill gave UCLA a second try. The Huskies stayed alive again, but a Kidder kill gave the Bruins a third match point. Freshman Megan Moenoa then came in to the match as a blocking sub and paid immediate dividends, combining with Nightingale on a match-clinching block to record a 28-26 win. Kidder led the Bruins with six kills in the third, while Aquino added five. The Bruins out-hit the Huskies .371 to .270.

The Bruins finish their two-match homestand on Sunday at 1 p.m. against Washington State at the John Wooden Center. Gametracker, free audio and free video will be available at UCLABruins.com.
