Three Bruin Divers To Compete At Speedo USA Spring Nationals

Three UCLA divers will be competing in Minneapolis beginning on Sunday at the Speedo USA Diving Spring National Championships, with spots in the 2008 U.S. Olympic Team Trials - Diving up for grabs.

Morgan Erpenbeck and Tess Schofield will compete on 10-meter platform, and Marisa Samaniego will dive on 1-meter and 3-meter.

They'll begin with the preliminaries on April 13-14, where they'll try to earn spots in the semifinals, which begin April 16.

Divers can prequalify into the semifinals based on finishes in past events, so the number of spots available on each event varies to get the set number of 24 divers in the semifinals.

Women's 1-meter: The top 17 divers from the preliminaries will advance to the semifinals Women's 3-meter: The top 11 divers from the preliminaries will advance to the semifinals Women's platform: The top 12 divers from the preliminaries will advance to the semifinals 24 divers will compete in the semifinals, with the top 12 advancing to the finals. The top eight finishers on 3-meter and platform will qualify for the U.S. Olympic Team Trials for diving.

Both Schofield and Samaniego advanced to the finals at the 2007 Speedo USA Diving Spring National Championships. Schofield finished ninth on platform, and Samaniego was 12th on 3-meter.
