UCLA Men's Basketball Selected to Defend Pac-10 Title in 2008-09

LOS ANGELES - The UCLA men's basketball team has been picked to finish first in the Pac-10 Conference in 2008-09, according to a poll of media members who cover Pac-10 men's basketball.

Additionally, UCLA has been ranked fourth, nationally, in the preseason ESPN/USA Today coaches' poll, which was released Thursday.

UCLA, the three-time defending Pac-10 regular season champion, earned 37 of 38 first-place votes in the preseason Pac-10 media poll. Arizona State, tabbed to finish second in the conference, received one first-place vote.

USC, Arizona and Washington, respectively, round out the poll's top five selections.

Washington State and Oregon have been selected sixth and seventh, respectively. Rounding out the preseason poll includes, in order, California, Stanford and Oregon State.

UCLA was chosen to finish first in the Pac-10 each of the last two seasons - 2006-07 and 2007-08. Additionally, the Bruins won the Pac-10 Tournament in 2006 and 2008.

UCLA hosts Cal Baptist in an exhibition game Monday, Nov. 3. Game time in Pauley Pavilion is slated for 7:30 p.m. Following their final preseason tune-up against Biola on Friday, Nov. 7, the Bruins open their regular season Wednesday, Nov. 12, against Prairie View A&M in the 2K Sports Classic's first round in Pauley Pavilion.
