UCLA's top-ranked women's golf team travels this week to the Mason Rudolph Fall Preview, hosted by Vanderbilt University, Sept. 23-25 at the Legends Club North Course in Nashville, TN.
All 10 of the nation's top 10 ranked teams according to the preseason coaches poll will be participating, including No.2 USC and third-ranked Alabama.
The Bruins are quite familiar with this venue, having played the Legends North Course for the last seven consecutive years and winning titles in 2007 and '08. UCLA has also finished second twice and produced one individual champion -- Sydnee Michaels -- in 2008. Michaels and alumna Susie Mathews were runners-up in 2009 and '04.
Representing UCLA this week will be two juniors, a sophomore and two true freshmen. Seniors Stephanie Kono and Brianna Do will not travel due to their participation in Stage II of the LPGA Futures Tour Qualifying Tournament, which begins on Sept. 27 in Florida.
Junior Tiffany Lua, ranked 12th nationally by AmateurGolf.com and 14th internationally by the Royal and Ancient world rankings, will headline the UCLA lineup. This summer, Lua played in both the U.S. Women's Amateur Publinks, where she advanced to the semifinals, and the U.S. Women's Amateur, where she lost in the third round.
Fourth-year junior Lee Lopez also played in both USGA events and tied for first at the Canadian Women's Amateur in July.
Sophomore Ani Gulugian played in the USWAPL and tied for eighth in stroke play before falling in the first round of match play.
Freshmen Erynne Lee and Kyle Roig also enjoyed productive summers. Lee advanced to the quarterfinals of the USWAPL and played in the U.S. Women's Open. Roig, ranked fourth nationally by AmateurGolf.com, advanced to the third round of match play at the Ladies British Open this summer prior to tying for 29th at Stage I of the LPGA's Q-School event in July.
The Legends North Course will play to a par of 72 over 6,451 yards.
