Welcome to 'Behind The Lanes,' the blog of the UCLA men's and women's track and field teams. Throughout the season, athletes and coaches from both the men's and women's programs will give you a behind-the-scenes look at UCLA on and off the track. First up for the men's team are talented freshman Alec Faldermeyer and Mike Woepse.

Hey Bruins, This is Alec Faldermeyer of the UCLA men's Track and Field team and I just wanted to give everyone an update on how our indoor campaign went and how the team is excited to start the outdoor season. We had a pretty good season that ended with us sending five talented athletes to the NCAA Indoor Championships at Texas A&M. We had an overall good performance at the meet with Jonathan Clark, Cory Primm, Ida Storm, and Lindsay Rowe all competing, and myself earning the first All-America honor of my career. It was a humbling experience for me to compete against the best in the country and perform so well, and I am very proud of our team's performance. I do however believe that we are a much stronger outdoor team right now and we are excited to get the outdoor season started with our first big meet over spring break, which happens to be a tri-meet against The University of Texas Longhorns and the Arkansas Razorbacks. Several of the athletes on our team competed outdoors for the first time this past weekend while I was at NCAAs, including my roommate, Mike Woepse. Below is a blog from Mike.

Hey everybody, this is Mike Woepse. I'm a freshman pole vaulter and I got to start off my UCLA career this past weekend at Cal State Northridge along with several other athletes on the team. It was an honor to be able to compete for UCLA for the first time and our team had a great start to the season with standout performances by Bo Taylor, Casey DiCesare and my brother Greg Woepse. Our team is really focused and is training very hard right now for the Texas and Arkansas tri-meet. It is a big meet for our program and a win there would be a big step in the right direction for our team's goal of competing for a national championship. This is going to be a very big season for us with several home meets at Drake Stadium, including dual meets against Tennessee on April 2nd and Oregon on April 17th. We hope to see all of the UCLA fans out there.

Go Bruins!
