UCLA Announces Six Signees for 2012-13

Los Angeles, Calif. - The UCLA rowing program has signed six high school rowers to National Letters of Intent, as announced by head coach Amy Fuller Kearney. The group of six student-athletes will enroll at UCLA in the fall of 2012.

The Bruins' latest signing class includes two rowers from California and one each from New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania and Canada.

The UCLA rowing program has concluded its fall practice, finishing the fall season with encouraging results at the Head of the Marina and the Newport Autumn Rowing Festival. UCLA opens its spring season on March 3 against Loyola Marymount in Marina del Rey, Calif.

Elisabeth Jensen
Media, Pennsylvania - Merion Mercy Academy

In her fourth year of rowing under coach Mike Brown...member of the Merion Mercy varsity 4+ that won the 2011 Henley Women's Regatta in Henley-on-Thames, England...finished 1st in the varsity 4+ at the 2011 Scholastic Rowing Association of America (SRAA) National Championships...finished 3rd in the varsity 4+ at the 2011 Head of the Schuylkill Regatta...stroked the Merion Mercy Youth 8+ at the 2011 Head of the Charles.

Aleda Kawalek
Welland, Ontario, Canada E.L. Crossley Secondary School / South Niagara Rowing Club

Competing in her fourth year of rowing under coaches Patrick MacNally and John Ruscitti...member of the Canadian Junior National Team 4- that finished 6th at the 2011 Junior World Championships in Eton, England...finished 1st in the Junior 4+ at the 2011 Stotesbury Cup Regatta...finished 1st in the both the Senior 4x and Senior 4+ at the 2011 CSSRA Championships...finished 1st in the Youth 4+ at the 2010 Head of the Charles...finished 1st in the Junior 4x at the 2010 Royal Canadian Henley Regatta.

Brooke Migliori
Corona del Mar, California- Newport Aquatic Center

Currently in her third year of rowing under coach Marketa Dequine...rowed in the Newport's top varsity 8+ and top varsity 4+ throughout the Fall...finished 5th in the varsity 8+ at the 2011 Head of the American...played volleyball prior to switching to rowing.

Kaitlin Miller
Manhasset, New York - Manhasset High School / Sagamore Rowing Association

Competing in her third year of rowing under coach Hugo Guardado Henriquez...competed in the Junior 4+ that finished 2nd at the 2011 Stotesbury Cup Regatta...awarded "Most Hard Working" on Manhasset High School for the 2011 season and was awarded "Most Improved" as a novice in 2010...has also played four years of varsity tennis earning All-Conference, All-County and All-State honors.

Sophie Rosenoer
Corte Madera, California - Marin Rowing Association

In her fourth year of rowing under coach Sandy Armstrong...stroked the Marin varsity 8+ to victory at the 2011 USRowing Youth National Championship as well as a 1st place finish at the 2011 Southwest Junior Regional Championships...stroked the Marin varsity 8+ to back to back 2nd place finishes at the Head of the Charles in 2010 and 2011.

Claire Wixted
Moorestown, New Jersey - Moorestown High School

Competing in her fourth year of rowing at Moorestown High School under coach Rich Henderson...member of the Moorestown varsity 8+ that finished 1st at the 2011 Garden State Scholastic Championships...invited to USRowing Junior National Team Development Camps in 2009 and 2010...was awarded "Most Outstanding" on her high school team after the 2010 season...received the 2009 "Hammer Award" for fastest novice girls 2k time on the ergometer...has also competed in swimming.
