2016 NFL Draft
Honors Continue for Bruin Football Players

Dec. 14, 2012

Two more organizations released their College Football All-America teams on Friday. The Football Writers Association of America named Johnathan Franklin to its first team. Phil Steele picked Franklin and linebacker Anthony Barr as second-team All-Americans. Offensive lineman Xavier Su'a-Filo was chosen to the fourth team.

Franklin, a finalist for the Doak Walker Award, set UCLA career (4,369 - old mark 3,731 by Gaston Green 1984-87) and single-season (1,700 - old mark 1,571 by Karim Abdul-Jabbar in 1995) rushing records during the 2012 campaign. He also recorded nine 100-yard rushing games to set a new school single-season mark in that category. In addition, the senior has established new school record totals in career (4,887 - old mark 4,688 by Maurice Jones-Drew 2003-05) and single-season (2,024 - old mark 1,878 by Terrence Austin in 2008) all-purpose yardage.

In his first season on defense following two as a running back, Barr leads the nation with 13.5 sacks. He has started all 13 games at linebacker and is ranked sixth in the nation in sacks average (1.04 per game) and is tied for ninth nationally in tackles for loss (1.58 per game, total of 20.5). His total of 13.5 sacks ranks second on UCLA's all-time single-season school list.

Su'a-Filo, who returned to UCLA this season after a two-year Church mission, has opened holes for the Bruin rushing attack all season long and helped protect quarterback Brett Hundley.

The Bruins will be back in action on Dec. 27 against Baylor in the Bridgepoint Education Holiday Bowl in San Diego, CA. For further information on UCLA and the Holiday Bowl, please visit our Bowl Central page at http://www.uclabruins.com/bowlcentral.
