SEATTLE, Wash. - Sophomore Jessica Hall struck out a career-high 10 and tossed her third complete-game shutout of the season, as the 16th-ranked Bruins blanked #7 Washington 5-0 on Saturday at Husky Softball Stadium. Senior Dani Yudin hit a two-run homer and freshman Stephany LaRosa added two hits and an RBI.
The Bruins improve to 29-11 overall and 6-5 in Pac-12 play, while the Huskies fall to 34-9 and 5-8 in league action.
Hall struck out at least one in six of her seven innings, including the side in the fourth and a pair in both the third and seventh. She retired the last seven batters of the ballgame, giving up just four hits and one walk to improve to 14-6 on the season.
The Bruins struck first with a pair of runs in the top of the second on one swing of the bat. Senior Samantha Camuso was hit by a pitch and was pinch-run for by freshman Sam Duran, who moved to second on a sacrifice by sophomore Kellie Fox and scored on a first pitch home run to center by Yudin. It was the senior's sixth homer of the season.
UCLA added another run in the fifth. With one out, a LaRosa single and a hit by pitch of senior Andrea Harrison put a pair on base. Harrison would be retired at second on a fielder's choice grounder off the bat of junior B.B. Bates to second for the second out of the inning, but Camuso followed with a single to left to bring home LaRosa to make it 3-0.
In the sixth, the Bruins scored two more. Yudin led off with a walk and was pinch-run for freshman Tara Mueller. One out later, sophomore Talee Snow doubled to right-center to move Mueller to third. Senior Katie Schroeder followed with a single to right to plate Mueller with the Bruins' fourth run. LaRosa then lifted a sacrifice fly to center to bring in Snow to increase UCLA's lead to 5-0.
The Bruins finish their three-game series with the Huskies on Sunday at 12 p.m. Gametracker and free audio will be available at UCLABruins.com, as well as live updates at twitter.com/uclasoftball.
