Freshman guard Jrue Holiday (North Hollywood, CA/Campbell Hall) of the UCLA men's basketball team was selected as the UCLA/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week for Jan. 26-Feb. 1.
Holiday had two solid outings this week, leading the Bruins to blowout victories over California (81-66) and Stanford (97-63). Holiday entered the week averaging 9.4 points, 3.8 rebounds, 3.1 assists and 1.5 steals per game. This week, he exceeded his averages in all four categories, averaging 14.0 points, 5.5 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 2.0 steals per game in the two victories. In the huge win over Stanford, Holiday registered game-highs (all tied) in points (15), rebounds (six), assists (five) and steals (two). Against Cal, Holiday also had an all-around effort of 13 points, five rebounds, four assists and two steals. His 13 points vs. Cal and then his 15 points against Stanford were his best scoring nights in Pac-10 play. For the week, Holiday shot 66.7 percent (10-for-15) from the field and 40.0 percent (2-for-5) from three-point range while sinking 100 percent (6-for-6) from the free-throw line.
This is Holiday's first UCLA/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week honor of the season and of his career.
