BREA, Calif. - Junior Ben Hohl and sophomore Cullen Hennessy of the UCLA men's water polo team have been named Academic All-America selections, as announced by the Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches.
Hohl, who also secured ESPN the Magazine second-team Academic All-District acclaim in the spring, and Hennessy have earned Academic All-America honors for the second time in their careers.
Hohl finished second on the team in 2009 with 40 goals before earning second-team All-America acclaim as a "superior" selection. He has twice secured second-team All-MPSF Academic honors (2008, 2009) and will enter the 2010 season having scored 100 career goals.
Hennessy finished sixth on the team with 23 goals in 2009, being named a "superior" Academic All-America selection. The native of Fairfax, Calif., scored at least one goal in eight of the Bruins' final 11 matches during his sophomore campaign.
Both Hohl and Hennessy helped lead UCLA to the NCAA Championships as a runner-up, marking the Bruins' first appearance at the NCAA Tournament since 2004. UCLA closed its 2009 season with a 23-7 record after having won the MPSF Tournament.
