Multi-Eventers Set to Compete at First-Ever Pac-12 Championship

Five UCLA track and field athletes will compete this weekend in Eugene, OR at the inaugural Pac-12 Multi-Event Championships.

Competing in the decathlon will be seniors Trent Perez and David Thomas, junior Dominic Giovannoni and sophomore Marcus Nilsson. Sophomore Tatum Souza will be competing in the heptathlon.

Last year, Perez earned a spot on the awards podium with his third-place finish as he scored a lifetime-best of 7315 points. That mark moved him to No. 9 all-time in UCLA history. Nilsson finished fourth overall (7253 pts.), while Giovannoni was fifth (7117 pts.).

Heading into the meet. Giovannoni ranks second with 7046 points, Nilsson is third (7025 pts.), Perez ranks sixth (6789 pts.) and Thomas is seventh (6736 pts.).

Souza finished sixth in the heptathlon in 2011 with 4906 points and heads into the meet ranked second with her lifetime-best score of 5350 points. The sophomore currently ranks 18th in the NCAA with that score and 10th all-time in UCLA history.

While the multi-eventers will compete in Eugene, several athletes will be competing in Eagle Rock at the Oxy Invitational for the final meet before the Pac-12 Championships.
