The No. 2/No. 3 (Golfweek/Golfstat) ranked UCLA women's golf team will travel to Tempe, AZ to compete in the 39th annual PING/ASU Invitational. The tournament will take place from Friday, April 1st to Sunday, April 3rd and will be played at Karsten Golf Club.
First round action will begin at approximately 8:00 a.m. PT on Friday and fans at home can follow live scoring at Golfstat.com.
Seventeen teams will battle for team and individual honors, including nine from the Pac-10 (all except Oregon) and nine ranked in the top 25 (USC (1), UCLA (2), Arizona (8), Cal (9), Arizona State (11), Pepperdine (20), Vanderbilt (21), Stanford (23) and Texas (25)).
In their last tournament, the Bruins took home third place at the Battle at Rancho Bernardo Inn with a score of 887 (+23). The Purdue Boilermakers were the winners of the tournament, finishing seven strokes ahead of second place USC and eight strokes ahead of the Bruins.
Individually, junior Stephanie Kono had the best finish for the Bruins as she ended up tied for 8th at 220 (+4). She now leads the team with four top-10 finishes and ten rounds under par on the year. Sophomore Tiffany Lua tied for 13th place while senior Glory Yang ended up tied for 16th after posting a final round 72 (E). Freshman Ani Gulugian finished in a tie for 20th place while sophomore Lee Lopez tied for 23rd. Finally, junior Brianna Do competed as an individual and tied for 31st place after posting a tournament score of 228 (+12).
Gulugian, Lopez, Lua, Kono and Yang will all be competing for the Bruins this weekend.
Last year, UCLA overcame a 12-storke deficit on the final day to win the team title at the PING/ASU Invitational, boasting an overall score of 856 (-8) after shooting a final round 279 (-9). Stephanie Kono also took home individual medalist honors after sinking a 50 foot birdie putt on the final hole. She won by one stroke after posting a tournament score of 207 (-9).
