The women's track and field team opened up the outdoor season on Saturday at the Ben Brown Invitational in Fullerton and were led by pole vaulter Allison Koressel who won the event.
The Bruin vaulters had eight athletes place in the top 10 behind Koressel's win (13-5.75). Tasha Kolbo was second with a best mark of 12-11.75, while Liz Goodrich was third with a mark of 12-6. Kayla Mallett, Elena Clarke, Courtney Reginato and Michelle Urabe all tied for fourth with equal clearances of 12-0. Karlye Marshall rounded out the Bruins placing in the top 10 as she finished ninth with a vault of 11-6.25.
Danielle Low led the way in the 800m as she placed second with a time of 2:13.68. Tiffany LaMar finished fifth (2:14.38), while Tamara Purpura was sixth (2:17.19). In the 1500m, Paisley Pettway finished second with a time of 4:35.58. Megan Marvin finished seventh (4:38.95), while Sarah Toberty placed 10th (4:40.72).
In the sprinting events, Nijah Nelms placed 10th in the 100m (12.30) and ninth in the 200m (25.41). Breyonna Hunter was the top finisher in the 400m as she placed sixth (55.99). Briana Barlow finished just behind Hunter in seventh-place with a time of 57.46.
The Bruins will continue the outdoor season on Mar. 17 when they travel south to San Diego to compete in the Aztec Invitational.
