Despite windy conditions all day, the No. 2 ranked UCLA women's golf team remained in first place after round two of the NCAA Championship. The team currently holds a three stroke lead over second place Purdue.
The Bruins posted a second round score of 295 (+7), giving them a total score of 584 (+8). As mentioned before, the team currently holds a three stroke lead over Purdue, who posted 295 (+7) for their round as well to give them an overall score of 587 (+11). LSU and host school Texas A&M are currently tied for third place at 588 (+12) after the Tigers posted a 296 (+8) and the Aggies posted a 293 (+5) for their rounds. Vanderbilt is currently sitting in fifth place at 589 (+13) after shooting a second round score of 292 (+4).
"The team did quite well again today," Head Coach Carrie Forsyth said. "We had to play very early and unfortunately still had wind to contend with. It was a challenging condition but thanks to very solid play by Stephanie Kono and Tiffany Lua (both finished at -1) we were able to hang on to our small lead over the field. Rain is a possibility starting tomorrow so we are in a good position and looking forward to playing better than we have thus far in the final rounds. It will be very exciting!"
Individually, sophomore Tiffany Lua recorded five birdies and four bogeys on her day to shoot 71 (-1) for her round. This currently puts her in a tie for 3rd place at 142 (-2), four strokes back of the leader. Senior Glory Yang posted a second round 75 (+3) to put her in a tie for 10th place, at 145 (+1). Junior Stephanie Kono fired a 71 (-1) for her day to move into a tie for 17th place at 146 (+2). Sophomore Lee Lopez finished round two in a tie for 49th at 151 (+7) after she recorded a 78 (+6) for her round. Finally, freshman Ani Gulugian shot a second round 81 (+9) and is currently tied for 104th place at 159 (+15).
Austin Ernst of LSU was the leader after round two with a score of 138 (-6).
