Women's Track & Field Signs Three Student-Athletes to National Letters-of-Intent

April 26, 2007

Head women's track and field coach, Jeanette Bolden, has announced the signing of three student-athletes to National Letters-of-Intent for the Spring signing period - Ashlea McLaughlin, Lindsay Rowe and Elizabeth Jewson, joining an already impressive recruit class that features the top triple jumper and pole vaulter in the country.

Both McLaughlin and Rowe had impressive indoor campaigns, posting some of the top times in the country this season.

McLaughlin (Uniondale (NY) HS) was the No. 1 300m runner during the indoor season with a best of 38.63. She also ranked No. 2 in the 400m with a best of 54.67 and No. 2 in the 500m (1:13.69).

Rowe (Cardozo (NY) HS) posted the No. 2 times in the country in the 55m hurdles (7.76) and 60m hurdles (8.25) during the indoor season.

"Signing these two talented women so late in the season is a real coupe for the Bruins," said Bolden.

Jewson, a distance runner from Tacoma, WA (Charles Wright Academy) had an impressive cross country campaign in 2006 in which she was the champion in her division. She has posted an early season time of 10:19 in the 3000m and will come to Westwood to race in the longer distance events.

"It's great to get another top athlete from her school (men's freshman Alex Crabill also hails from CW Academy)," said distance coach Eric Peterson. "Lizzie is going to be a great to our distance and cross country team next season."

"These three women will boost an already outstanding freshmen class and help the Bruins achieve their goals in having a balance and talented program," added Bolden.

Last Fall, the Bruins signed the No. 1 triple jumper (Ke'Nyia Richardson) and No. 1 pole vaulter in the country (Tori Anthony). Both have set high school records this season, with Anthony moving the bar up to 14-2.50 and Richardson leaping out to 44-6.75. Richardson has a 2007 outdoor best of 43-1.50 and Anthony has a best of 13-10.

Also signed in the Fall were Aubree Stark (pole vault), Joy Eaton (sprints), Shannon Murakami (distance) and Dayna Hill (jumps).
