The third-ranked UCLA men's water polo team will face Stanford and Long Beach State on the first day of this year's SoCal Tournament, hosted by USC. The two-day tournament (Oct. 14-15) features 12 teams, including all nine MPSF conference squads.
The Bruins will battle Stanford for the third time this season, when the conference foes hit the water at 1:20 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 14, at the Commerce Pool. UCLA will face Long Beach State at 5:20 later in the afternoon.
UCLA, Stanford and Long Beach State comprise "Group C," and the group's first-place team will play the "Group B" winner (California, Loyola Marymount or Pepperdine) at 11:20 a.m. on Sunday, Oct. 15 at USC's McDonald's Swim Stadium. The winner of that contest will face the winner of the game between "Group A" first-place and "Group D" first place at 4:40 p.m.
The Bruins have twice defeated Stanford in 2006. UCLA captured a 7-6 win in the NorCal Tournament's third-place game on Sunday, Sept. 17. The Bruins earned a 10-8 victory against the sixth-ranked Cardinal on Saturday, Sept. 30 in both teams' MPSF conference season opener.
UCLA will play at UC San Diego on Friday, Oct. 6 at 6 p.m. and will host their annual Alumni Game the following day at noon. The Alumni Game will take place at the Rose Bowl Aquatics Center, prior to the 4 p.m. football game between UCLA and Pac-10 opponent Arizona.
