By: UCLA Athletics

Jan. 6, 2012

Chicago, Ill. - UCLA alums Kelyn Rowe, Amobi Okugo, Brian Perk and Michael Stephens have been selected to the 22-man roster for the U.S. Under-23 Men's National Team training camp in Carson, Calif. and San Jose, Costa Rica from Jan. 8-25. The U-23s will conduct the first 11 days of camp training at The Home Depot Center, before traveling on Jan. 18 to Costa Rica, where they will play two matches against local club teams Saprissa Reserves on Saturday, Jan. 21, and Alajuela on Tuesday, Jan. 24.

Rowe will be attending his second camp in the U-23 age group after earning six caps on the U.S. U-20 National Team. The sophomore midfielder scored six goals and tallied 10 assists during the Bruins' recent run to the semifinals of the NCAA College Cup. Rowe was also named Pac-12 Player of the Year for 2011 and earned second-team All-America honors from College Soccer News and Soccer America. Last month, Rowe signed a Generation Adidas contract with Major League Soccer and will enter the MLS SuperDraft on Thurs., Jan. 12.

Okugo, who played for UCLA in 2009 before signing with Major League Soccer, finished up his second season with the Philadelphia Union, who signed him as the No. 6 overall pick in the 2010 MLS SuperDraft. Okugo played in 15 games and made 10 starts for the Union and was named the Pac-10 Freshman of the Year in 2009.

Perk will be making his first camp appearance with the U-23 group after earning 16 caps with the U.S. U-20 squad. Previously, he was the starting goalkeeper for the U.S. at the 2009 FIFA Under-20 World Cup and the 2009 CONCACAF Under-20 Championships. Perk played at UCLA from 2006-2009 and was a three-time All-Pac-10 honoree and a second-team NSCAA All-American in 2009. He led the Pac-10 in GAA his senior year in 2009 (0.87) and his 241 career saves rank fourth on UCLA's all-time list. Perk currently plays for the LA Galaxy and just completed his first full season with the club.

Stephens was a member of the UCLA Soccer Team from 2006-2009 and was drafted in the first round of the 2010 MLS Superdraft by the Los Angeles Galaxy (No. 16 overall). He just completed his second season with the club, playing in 25 games with 12 starts and recording one assist on the year. Like Rowe, Stephens was named the Pac-10 Player of the Year in 2008 at UCLA.
