WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - Junior libero Lainey Gera was named Pacific-10 Conference Player of the Week on Monday. Gera tied a school record for digs in a three-set match with 28 against Arizona State on Friday and followed that up with 27 more digs against Arizona on Saturday to average 7.86 digs per set in a pair of Bruin victories.

On Friday against the Sun Devils, Gera was digging everything in sight, recording 28 of the Bruins' 57 digs in the match. The junior posted eight digs in the first set and 10 apiece in the second and third stanzas. The 28 digs equaled the school record set by Chrissie Zartman, who had that total on Dec. 4, 2004 against Long Beach State.

On Saturday, Gera notched her 24th career match and ninth this season with 20-plus digs. She again had a great first set, posting nine of the Bruins' 20 digs in the opener. The Wildcats avoided hitting her way in the second and third sets, as Gera had just nine digs in the two stanzas. But in the fourth, Gera was again a factor with nine of UCLA's 16 digs.

Gera has moved into fourth on UCLA's all-time digs list with 1,283 and will next surpass three-time All-American Nellie Spicer, who had 1,299 digs as a Bruin. Gera leads the Bruins and all Pac-10 players in digs per set with 4.84 dps.

The award is the first of Gera's career. It is also the first Player of the Week honor for the Bruins this season and the 55th all-time weekly recognition.

The Bruins head to Oregon for their final regular-season road trip when they take on 23rd-ranked Oregon on Friday at 7 p.m. and Oregon State on Sunday at 12 p.m. Gametracker/live stats will be available at UCLABruins.com.
