BRUINS OPEN SEASON AGAINST SAN DIEGO STATE
The UCLA Bruins open up the 2012-13 regular season on Saturday, Nov. 10, hosting the San Diego State Aztecs in New Pauley Pavilion at 7:05 p.m. The game will be broadcast on AM 1150 KTLK. Don't forget to wear your Bruindanas to get two free tickets to the game.
The UCLA Bruins defeated the Westmont College Warriors, 73-43, in an exhibition game in the John Wooden Center on Nov. 5. Tennessee transfer Alyssia Brewer led the Bruins wtih 17 points and 12 rebounds. The senior forward added two assists and two blocks in just 19 minutes of action. A total of five Bruins scored in double figures, in addition to Brewer. Senior Markel Walker turned in her patented all-around performance with 13 points, six rebounds, five assists and four steals. Junior Atonye Nyingifa also had a solid outing with 12 points, five rebounds, three steals and two aasists. Sophomore Kacy Swain chipped in 10 points and six rebounds while freshman Nirra Fields added 10 points (all in the second half), eight boards and three steals.
SERIES AGAINST SAN DIEGO STATE
This is the 28th meeting between UCLA and San Diego State with the Bruins leading the all-time series, 21-6. The Bruins won last year's meeting in the John Wooden Center, 78-71, on Nov. 30, 2011. This is the third straight year the two teams have met, but only the second meeting in Los Angeles since the 1999 season.
RECAPPING LAST YEAR VERSUS SDSU
Junior Atonye Nyingifa had her fourth double-double of the year with 21 points (career high) and 11 rebounds, senior Rebekah Gardner added 20 points and eight rebounds and junior Mariah Williams posted a season-best 11 points, as the Bruins defeated San Diego State 78-71 on Nov. 30, 2011, at the John Wooden Center.
TITLE IX CELEBRATION SET FOR NOV. 10
At halftime of the UCLA vs. San Diego State game, the Bruins will celebrate the 40th Anniversary of Title IX and honor the top female student-athletes and coaches of the last 40 years. Make sure to stick around after the game as Ann Meyers Drysdale will have a book signing on the concourse.
