Big Weekend at the Los Angeles Tennis Center
The fourth-ranked UCLA women's tennis team (9-1) is set to host two of its biggest matches of the year this Friday and Saturday, as No. 11 Stanford and No. 3 Cal visit the Los Angeles Tennis Center for a pair of non-conference showdowns. Action gets underway on Friday, with the Bruins facing the Cardinal (7-0) at 1:30 p.m. Stanford posted a 6-1 victory over UCLA in the only meeting between the two teams last season. The Bruins will then face the Golden Bears (7-1) on Saturday at Noon. The two teams already met once earlier this season, with Cal posting a 4-3 win over UCLA in the quarterfinals of the ITA National Team Indoors. UCLA Men Make Bay Area Trip
The seventh-ranked UCLA men's tennis team (5-2) also has Stanford and Cal this week, although those matches will be up in the Bay Area. The Bruins and 14th-ranked Cardinal (7-2) are set to clash on Friday 1:30 p.m. The two teams split a pair of 4-3 decisions last year. The 15th-ranked Cal Golden Bears (7-1) await UCLA on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. Cal is coming off a 4-3 victory over Stanford last week.
UCLA in the Rankings
UCLA is one of 14 schools in the country to have both its men's and women's tennis teams currently in the top 10 nationally, as the Bruin women check in at No. 4 this week, followed by the Bruin men at No. 7. Four UCLA women are currently ranked in singles led by Yasmin Schnack at No. 5. She is followed by Andrea Remynse (No. 43), Noelle Hickey (No. 48) and Stephanie Hoffpauir (No. 125). Remynse and Schnack are also ranked No. 11 in doubles. The four UCLA men ranked this week are: Matt Brooklyn (No. 48), Haythem Abid (No. 71), Nick Meister (No. 96) and Amit Inbar (No. 100). The UCLA men's match against No. 14 Stanford on Friday will kickoff a string of five straight matches against top 25 teams, as the Bruins will then face No. 15 Cal, No. 5 USC, No. 21 Duke and No. 12 Baylor. The UCLA-USC match will take place at the Los Angeles Tennis Center next Wednesday at 3:00 p.m. The Bruin women also take on No. 10 USC next Wednesday at USC's Marks Tennis Stadium beginning at 1:30 p.m.
