Team Bruin Celebrates Strong Performances At U.S. Open Championships

UCLA swimmers had a fine showing last week at the U.S. Open Championships in Federal Way, WA as seven athletes represented Team Bruin, while others represented their swim clubs in summer pool action.

It was a great ending to the summer season andthe team posted multiple lifetime-bests during the meet.Highlighting the competition for the Bruins was Sam Vanden Berge who took sixth-place in the 1500m free with a lifetime-best of 16:41.47.Vanden Berge also swam the 800 free (8:57.09).

In addition to the seven student-athletescompeting with Team Bruin, junior Dani Milligan (representing Scottsdale Aquatics) swam the200 IM, 400 IM, 800 free and 1500 free, and junior Carly Lyons (Dynamo Swim Club) swam the 100 and 200 back.

Standout performances were also garnered by incoming freshmen Lindsey Marchand of King Aquatic and Laurence Delisle of DeAnza Cupertino. Marchand was sixth in the 100 fly (1:00.04) and 17th in the 200 fly (2:13.81). Delisle was 19th in the 200 IM (2:17.95). Other incoming freshmen in attendance were Briana Meyer of Longhorn, Emma Drysdale of DeAnza Cupertino and Rachel Godfred of King Aquatic.
