LOS ANGELES - The UCLA men's tennis team had three players post wins on Wednesday to earn spots in the main singles draw at the 54th Southern California Intercollegiate Championships at the Los Angeles Tennis Center.
Alex Brigham and Warren Hardie both received first-round byes and only needed to win one match to earn a spot in the main draw. Brigham punched his ticket with a 6-3, 6-3 victory over UC San Diego's Rajeev Herekar, while Hardie downed Pepperdine's Hugh Clarke, 4-6, 6-2, (11-9).
Sophomore Evan Teufel was the third Bruin to qualify, as he began the day with a 3-6, 6-1, (10-5) win over UC Riverside's Rainer Matias. He did not need to play a second round match as his opponent, Michael Grant from USC, was elevated to the main draw when top-seeded teammate Daniel Nguyen withdrew from the main draw due to injury. Teufel then assumed the qualifying spot.
