Dylan Knight, Cory Primm and Scott Crawford are the first Bruin men to advance to the NCAA Championships at the Pre-Qualifying Meet in Austin, TX as all three finished in the top 12 of their respective events.
Primm was second in heat two (fifth overall) with a solid time of 1:47.03 to automatically advance to the NCAA Championships. Crawford, also in heat two, had a huge race as he ran a new lifetime-best to clinch the 12th and final spot into the National meet. He was fifth in the heat with a new PR of 1:47.78 (old best 1:48.77) and moves into the UCLA all-time top 10 at the No. 7 spot. This will be Primm's third appearance at the outdoor meet and Crawford's first.
In the steeplechase, Dylan Knight finished third in heat one and seventh overall, earning a spot at the National Championships. For most of the race he led before falling to the No. 5 position. He moved back into third over the final 100m to cement his place at the national meet. This will be his first NCAA Championship meet. He finished xth overall with a time of 8:47.37. Spencer Knight was 10th in heat two and 27th overall with a time of 9:06.44. He does not advance to the NCAA meet.
Greg Woepse and Casey DiCesare did not finish in the top 12 in the pole vault and both of their seasons have come to an end. Woepse, who battled back from a hamstring injury all season, cleared a season-best 17-00.75 to tie for 18th overall. DiCesare tied for 22nd with a clearance of 16-8.75.
Competition concludes on Saturday with the men's 4x100m relay, Marlon Patterson in the 1500m quarterfinal, Alex Crabill in the quarterfinal round of the 5000m, Jonathan Clark in the triple jump, Thomas Nagengast in the discus and Bo Taylor in the discus.
