LOS ANGELES - Despite a furious ninth-inning rally, No. 26 UCLA dropped a 10-7 decision to No. 23 Oregon State Friday evening at Jackie Robinson Stadium. The Bruins stranded the bases loaded after scoring one run in the ninth inning of a Pac-10 contest that saw three ties and two lead changes.

Shortstop Brandon Crawford led UCLA (29-25, 13-9 Pac-10), hitting 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI and two runs scored. Center fielder Justin Uribe finished 3-for-3 with two RBI for the host Bruins. Oregon State second baseman Joey Wong and catcher Mitch Canham each posted 3-for-5 efforts with two runs apiece.

Bruin left-hander Brendan Lafferty (3-2) absorbed the loss, allowing one run and walking two in 2/3 innings of relief. Oregon State right-hander Daniel Turpen (9-1) recorded his ninth victory, limiting UCLA to one run and five hits in 3 1/3 innings of relief. Eddie Kunz notched his team-leading 10th save of the season for Oregon State.

Oregon State claimed a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning, and UCLA tied the contest in the bottom of the frame, 3-3. The Beavers took a 4-3 lead in the third inning on a sacrifice fly by designated hitter Mike Lissman. UCLA responded in the bottom of the inning, scoring on Gabe Cohen's solo home run to left-center.

The Bruins took the lead, 5-4, with a solo home run by Crawford in the bottom of the fourth. Oregon State answered with an RBI-single by catcher Mitch Canham in the top of the fifth, tying the contest, 5-5.

Oregon State assumed a 6-5 advantage in the top of the seventh inning on an RBI-single by first baseman Jordan Lennerton. The Beavers added three runs in the top of the eighth, scoring twice on a throwing error and once on an RBI-single to center.

UCLA answered with one run in the bottom of the eighth, and Oregon State scored once in the top of the ninth to lead, 10-6. The Bruins' ninth-inning run came on a bases-loaded walk to Crawford, scoring center fielder Brady Dolan.

UCLA and Oregon State resume their series Saturday at 2 p.m. Bruins left-hander Tim Murphy will start and southpaw Joe Paterson is expected to start for the Beavers.
