Tulsa, Okla. - After having to fight through three rounds of qualifying earlier in the week, UCLA senior Chris Surapol won two rounds in the main singles draw Thursday at the Polo Ralph Lauren All-American Tennis Championships at the University of Tulsa's Michael D. Case Tennis Center.
Surapol began the day with a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Brandon Wai of Yale. He followed that up with a three-set win over Michigan's Matko Maravic, who had to retire due to injury. Maravic was injured during the first-set tiebreaker, which he won 10-8. He tried to continue, however Surapol won the next set 6-0 and was leading 2-0 in the third when Maravic retired.
Next up for Surapol is a meeting with top-seeded John Isner of Georgia in the round of 16 on Friday. Isner, who is the defending champion at this event, has yet to drop a set in two matches.
