Box Score

LOS ANGELES - Senior Kaitlin Sather, junior Dicey McGraw and freshman Lauren Cook all posted double-doubles, but the 16th-ranked Bruins lost in four sets to #11 Stanford on Friday at Pauley Pavilion. Set scores were 20-25, 25-20, 25-21, 25-20.

The Bruins fall to 11-5 overall and 1-2 in the Pac-10, while the Cardinal improve to 8-4 and 1-1 in league play.

McGraw had a team-high 14 kills to go along with 10 digs in recording her third straight double-double. Sather added 13 kills and 10 digs, while Cook notched 47 assists and a season-high 17 digs. Sophomore Amanda Gil fell just short of joining the double-double trio, posting 10 kills and nine blocks. Sophomore Katie Camp was also in double figures in kills with 11, while sophomore Lainey Gera added 22 digs. The Bruins hit .137 as a team.

The Bruins never trailed in the opener, jumping out to a 6-1 lead and forcing the Cardinal into an early timeout. Cook served an ace on the first point of the match, and following a Stanford sideout, UCLA scored five straight on kills by Sather and freshman Bojana Todorovic, a Cardinal attack error, a Gil/Todorovic combo block and a Todorovic spike. Stanford came back with four of the next seven to cut its deficit to four at 9-5, but UCLA netted four in a row to force the Cardinal into another timeout. Camp began the run with a kill, which was followed by a bad set by the Cardinal, a McGraw kill and a Stanford attack error to make it 13-5.

UCLA got its lead up to as many as 10 at 22-12 and 23-13, but Stanford made a late run to make things interesting. The Cardinal went on a 7-1 run, staving off the first five set points before a Gil kill on the sixth try gave the home team a 25-20 victory. Camp, Gil, McGraw, Sather and Todorovic combined for all 15 kills, recording three apiece. The Bruins out-hit the Cardinal .206 to .111.

The Bruins got off to another good start, scoring four of the first five on a Stanford attack error, a Gil/Sather block, a Gil/Sather/Todorovic triple roof and a Sather kill. UCLA still led 8-5, but a 5-1 Cardinal run gave the visitors their first advantage of the match at 10-9. The Bruins rebounded with three in a row to re-take the lead 12-11 on a Gil kill, a Stanford attack error and a Sather spike.

However, a 6-1 Cardinal run gave them a 17-13 advantage and the lead for the remainder of the set. The Bruins could get no closer than three the rest of the way, dropping the set 25-20. The Cardinal out-hit the Bruins .184 to .079. Camp and McGraw paced UCLA with three kills apiece in the second.

The Bruins again started strong to open the third, scoring four of the first five on a Sather kill and three blocks, a solo roof by McGraw, a double block by Gil and McGraw and a triple by Gil, McGraw and Sather. The Cardinal tied it back up at 6, 7 and 8-all, but a 7-1 UCLA run saw the home squad go up by six at 15-9. McGraw had two kills and an ace during the run, Sather added two kills and Gil and Todorovic posted one each.

But the Cardinal made a huge run and stole the set from the Bruins. Stanford scored 10 of the next 11 to take a 19-16 lead. The Bruins got no closer than two the rest of the way, dropping the third 25-21. Sather had five kills in the third to lead the Bruins, while Camp and McGraw posted three each. The Cardinal out-hit the Bruins .302 to .195.

UCLA scored three of the first four points in the fourth set on a trio of Sather kills, but the Cardinal bounced back with five of six to take a 6-4 edge. The Bruins tied it up at seven, but were unable to grab the lead for the rest of the set. Stanford never led by more than five, but UCLA could not muster a sustained rally to get back to even. The Cardinal would go on to win the fourth 25-20 to win the match 3-1. McGraw had five kills in the fourth, while Gil and Sather had three each. The Bruins were out-hit .186 to .083.

Alix Klineman led the Cardinal with 23 kills, 10 digs and five block solos, as Stanford hit .200 as a team with 14 blocks.

The Bruins continue their three-match homestand on Saturday when they face California at 7 p.m. Gametracker and free audio and video will be available at UCLABruins.com.
