Indian Wells, Calif. - UCLA's Riza Zalameda wrapped up the National Collegiate Tennis Classic in impressive fashion on Sunday, as the Bruin senior won both the singles and doubles titles at what is annually one of the most prestigious events in the country.
Zalameda, listed at No. 25 in the latest Intercollegiated Tennis Association singles rankings, defeated 58th ranked Carolyn McVeigh of Stanford, 6-2, 6-3 in Sunday's singles final. That win earns Zalameda a qualifying wild card into the WTA Tour's Pacific Life Open, March 10 and 11, also in Indian Wells.
Following her singles win, Zalameda then teamed with fellow senior Tracy Lin to capture the doubles championship at the NCTC, as the duo defeated USC's Amanda Fink/Gabriela Niculescu, 8-6.
UCLA opens up the 2008 dual match season tomorrow, hosting Cal Poly at the Los Angeles Tennis Center beginning at 1:30 p.m.
