Sophomore forward Sydney Leroux (Vancouver, BC/Horizon HS) of the UCLA women's soccer team was selected as the UCLA/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week for Aug. 24-30.
Leroux scored a pair of goals in the Bruins' first victory of the season against Long Beach State on Sunday. The Bruins got on the board in the 22nd minute of action, when Leroux headed in a cross from Summer Williams for an early 1-0 advantage. She would strike again just 16 seconds into the second half, as she received a pass from senior Kristina Larsen and dribbled around Long Beach goalkeeper Emily Kingsborough before scoring on an empty net from close range. It marked Leroux's second multiple-goal match in three contests this year, as she also scored twice in the season opener against North Carolina. She has accounted for four of the Bruins' seven goals this season. Leroux also had a match-high nine shots in the team's 1-1 tie with No. 15 San Diego on Friday.
This is Leroux's first UCLA/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week honor of the season and of her career.
Also nominated: Dicey McGraw, W. Volleyball.
