WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - For the second straight week, a Bruin took home Pacific-10 Conference Player of the Week honors, as sophomore Andrea Harrison earned her first career award on Monday. Harrison went 6-for-11 (.545) with four home runs, eight runs batted in and five runs scored to help UCLA to a three-game sweep of Oregon.
Harrison posted a slugging percentage of 1.636, reaching base in seven of her 12 plate appearances.
Monday's award comes on the heels of senior Megan Langenfeld earning the honor last week after she had four homers and eight RBI in a three-game sweep of Stanford. It is the third Player of the Week accolade and fourth weekly honor of the season for the Bruins. Juniors GiOnna DiSalvatore (player) and Donna Kerr (pitcher) received their respective awards on Feb. 23. UCLA has now earned 60 Pac-10 Player of the Week honors.
Harrison hit a pair of two-run homers in both Saturday and Sunday's contests. On Saturday, the sophomore went 3-for-3 with three runs scored and four runs batted in. She got the Bruins on the board in the first with her first two-run homer of the game. After singling and scoring in the third, Harrison hit her second two-run homer in the fourth which gave the Bruins a 9-0 advantage.
On Sunday, Harrison had two-run bombs in each of her first two at-bats in the first and third innings. Her first-inning homer gave the Bruins a 2-1 lead and her third-inning jack put the Bruins ahead 4-2, which proved to be the game-winning RBI. Harrison was hit in her final at-bat of the weekend in the fifth inning. The sophomore had hits in all three games, adding a single in the first contest of the series on Friday.
Harrison produced her second and third two-homer contests this season and tied a career high with four RBI in both games. She is tied for the team lead with 13 home runs, placing third with a .376 average and 40 runs batted in. Harrison is also tied for first in doubles and second with a .752 slugging percentage.
