LOS ANGELES - The UCLA baseball team dropped a 3-2 decision to California on Friday evening at Steele Field at Jackie Robinson Stadium. Right-hander Gerrit Cole (4-5) absorbed the loss, despite limiting the visiting Golden Bears to three runs (one earned) and two hits in 8.1 innings while striking out 11 and walking five.

California right-hander Brian Diemer (2-6) earned the victory, allowing one run and one hit in two innings of relief. Right-hander Dixon Anderson recorded the final three outs to notch his third save of the game.

The Golden Bears (21-26, 7-15 Pac-10) scored twice in the ninth to snap a 1-1 tie. After center fielder Brett Jackson drew a one-out walk, first baseman Mark Canha belted a fly ball just in front of the left field wall that was bobbled by UCLA's Gabe Cohen, allowing the baseruners to move to third and second, respectively. A single up the middle by designated hitter Blake Smith scored Jackson, and a sacrifice fly by catcher Chadd Krist brought home Canha.

UCLA loaded the bases with nobody out in the bottom of the ninth by taking advantage of an infield single by center fielder Blair Dunlap and consecutive walks. A sacrifice fly to right field by second baseman Eddie Murray allowed Dunlap to score and shortstop Niko Gallego to slide safely into third base. Right fielder Justin Uribe grounded into a double play to shortstop to end the game.

Dunlap and Uribe each finished with two hits for UCLA (23-23, 13-9 Pac-10).

The Bruins scored one run in the bottom of the first. With runners at first and second, first baseman Cody Decker reached safely on a fielder's choice after designated hitter Casey Haerther was forced at second base. An errant throw to first base by Jeff Kobernus allowed Uribe to score after moving to third base.

California answered with one run in the bottom of the third. Right fielder Danny Oh led off with a single to right field and advanced to second base on a sacrifice bunt. A two-out single to center by shortstop Brian Guinn scored Oh, tying the contest at 1-1.
