Los Angeles - Freshman right-hander Garett Claypool (1-0) allowed just three hits through five scoreless innings to lead No. 24 UCLA past No. 11 Pepperdine, 6-2, on Tuesday evening at Jackie Robinson Stadium. Claypool earned his first collegiate victory after striking out three hitters without issuing a walk.

UCLA (19-16) notched its fourth-consecutive victory Tuesday evening and has won 11 of its last 13 games.

Left fielder Justin Uribe led the Bruins, hitting 2-for-3 with two RBI. Third baseman Jermaine Curtis posted a 2-for-3 effort at the plate and drove in one run. Left-hander Tim Murphy pitched one scoreless inning of relief and recorded one strikeout for UCLA.

Pepperdine first baseman Ryan Heroy led the Waves (28-12) at the plate, hitting 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run. Pepperdine right-hander Adam Olbrychowski surrendered three unearned runs off five hits in four innings.

The Bruins took a 1-0 lead against Pepperdine in the third inning on an RBI groundout by second baseman Alden Carrithers, who drove home catcher Ryan Babineau.

UCLA added two runs in the fourth inning. With right fielder Gabe Cohen at third base, designated hitter Casey Haerther ripped a base hit up the middle. Haerther later scored when third baseman Jermaine Curtis singled through the right side, giving UCLA a 3-0 cushion.

The Bruins added their fourth run on a base hit to center by Justin Uribe, scoring Cohen from third base. Cohen reached on a walk, stole second and took third on a pass ball before Uribe's single.

Pepperdine sliced UCLA's lead in half when Heroy belted a two-run home run with right fielder Donald Brown aboard first base in the top of the seventh inning.

UCLA scored on a base hit to left by Uribe in the seventh inning, scoring shortstop Brandon Crawford from second base to give the Bruins a 5-2 lead. The Bruins added their sixth run on a sacrifice fly to center by Carrithers in the ninth inning.

UCLA returns to action Friday, April 20 to host Cal State Northridge in a three-game series at Jackie Robinson Stadium. The Bruins will send right-hander Tyson Brummett to the mound, and the visiting Matadors will counter with senior left-hander Bobby Paschal.

Game Notes: In four starts this season (all on Tuesday nights), Garett Claypool has recorded a 1.62 ERA in 16.2 innings pitched, registering 13 strikeouts and just three walks; opponents are hitting at a .190 clip against Claypool in those starts...Justin Uribe notched his first career multi-RBI game...eight of UCLA's nine starters in the batting lineup finished the evening with at least one hit.
