Walnut Creek, Calif. - UCLA senior right-hander Tyson Brummett captured Pac-10 Pitcher of the Week honors for the week of March 26-April 1, the conference announced Tuesday. Brummett (4-4) pitched his third complete game of the season and struck out nine batters to lead UCLA past Stanford, 8-2, Friday evening in Palo Alto, Calif.
Brummett allowed just two runs (one earned) off six hits through 9.0 innings to even his record at 4-4. The Salem, Utah, native gave the Bruins a major boost in the series-opener, paving the way for UCLA's first sweep at Stanford since 1991. Brummett leads all UCLA pitchers with 53 strikeouts in 60.1 innings pitched.
The right-hander previously pitched complete games in back-to-back Friday night starts against East Carolina (Feb. 16) and at Cal State Fullerton (Feb. 23). Brummett is the first UCLA ballplayer to earn two Pac-10 weekly awards this season and has captured the honor three times in his career.
Riding a season-high five game win streak, UCLA returns to action Thursday, April 5, at home against Washington. Brummett will start for the Bruins against Washington southpaw Nick Haughian.
