Franklin: An Interview with the All-Time Leading Rusher

Nov. 7, 2012

Johnathan Franklin Interview

Johnathan Franklin became UCLA's all-time leading rusher in last week's game against Arizona. The redshirt senior surpassed Gaston Green's 25-year old record total of 3,731 yards on his third carry of the night, a 37-yard sprint to the end zone.

Franklin recorded the 17th 100-yard rushing game of his career on the record night and upped his rushing total to 3,873 yards. He is now tied with Freeman McNeil for second on the all-time school list for 100-yard games in a career, three back of Green's total of 20. Franklin currently ranks fourth in the nation in rushing (133.78 yds/g) and is second among players from BCS conference schools. He also ranks tied for 12th in the nation in all-purpose yardage (160.0) and has caught a career-high 20 passes on the year.

The senior's career all-purpose yardage total of 4,303 yards places him third on that school list with Maurice Jones-Drew's record mark of 4,688 yards in sight. Franklin's single-season rushing total of 1,204 yards is eighth on the all-time school list and Karim Abdul-Jabbar's 1,571 sum in 1995 is within reach.
