UCLA Head Coach Karl Dorrell
"That was a great game, just unbelievable. We had a great plan. We tried to do something differently. Defense played really, really well and had some great stops on fourth downs. We played smart. We had one big mistake offensively which was the back of the lateral on the swing pass. It was just a great team win. Defensively, we made them earn everything that they got. That's the sign of a great defense. Special teams was solid. I really don't have much other to say than that we orchestrated our plan. We kept ourselves in the ball game and pulled it out at the end."
On defeating USC for the first time since 1998:
"I know how important this win is for the Bruin family. I know that it's been a long time. Believe me, this is my fourth year, and to get it after three feels like a long time. It's a great game to end the home season on. We played at Notre Dame and Cal and some other places this year - places like Autzen Stadium and Husky Stadium. But, there is absolutely nothing like this stadium in this game. Both fans were screaming. It was good to see the Bruin blue really come out there and dominate the stadium."
On Eric McNeal's late interception:
"What a great way to go out in your senior year, playing in your last game in the Rose Bowl. To finish your last game with an interception like that. I'm sure he'll tell his kids someday how it ended and how he made the stop. So it was great for Eric to be able to do that and seal the win for us."
On quarterback Patrick Cowan's performance:
"I'm thinking about tonight, and getting back in the locker room with those players. Those things will play out with them in due time. I'm thinking about getting back on top in Los Angeles."
On the game's final play:
"Remember from all those experiences, late in the fourth quarter - you can go back to Notre Dame or a chance where you can go back and finish a game and say that you can go out and win this game. We were all excited about that challenge, and they were too. It was a great festive atmosphere. Who was going to win in that tough circumstance? We were fortunate to be the ones to end up back on top. I didn't believe it until the clock went zero. The clock starts on the snap and it goes 3, 2, 1 and then I see he passes it, and the ball was tipped. I'm thinking, get that thing down. I've been disappointed at Notre Dame before. I wasn't excited until I knew it was definitely over.
UCLA quarterback Pat Cowan
On his running game:
"I was trying to get some positive yards. Coach Dorrell told me that if I could make some plays with my feet, that I should do it. That's what I did."
On the victory:
"Yes, it's so great. It's getting better. It was a great team win. It's just about how you finish. We might have the best numbers but we've got victories, and that's what most important."
On utilizing the run at quarterback:
"We saw them on film, last week. Brady Quinn had a long run. Coach Dorrell said that if it opens up, take it. We went with that and I was able to make some plays tonight."
On UCLA's defense:
"Our defense was lights out - just awesome. They just keep getting better and better. This season, there has been a whole new attitude on the defense this season." On the quarterback situation
"I was going to prepare at the beginning of the week, to start. If I wasn't named the starter, I would still have been prepared to play. The more I play, the more I'm learning about how not to force things and to take what they give me. I'm enjoying this game, and that's all that is one my mind."
USC Head Coach Pete Carroll
"Give credit to UCLA. They made it a difficult day. They were there for the challenge. They kept us from doing what we wanted to do today. We had no rhythm. We could not convert on third-down opportunities. We give them a lot of credit - to Karl [Dorrell] and his staff. They made it very difficult for us today. The third-and-shorts told the story of the day. We had success before [converting those opportunities]. We did not anticipate this happening. They did a nice job of rushing our passer. Booty had a hard day. They knocked him around. He was off-balance all day. We had no problem defensively. There was not much offense on the field today from both teams."
