DALLAS - UCLA shortstop Brandon Crawford has been selected a preseason third-team All-American by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA), as announced by the NCBWA on Wednesday, Nov. 12.
Crawford, a junior from Pleasanton, Calif., posted a .335 average with seven home runs, 55 RBI and 50 runs in 2007. UCLA's team MVP the past two seasons, Crawford has started every game (119) since stepping on campus two years ago.
A first-team freshman All-American by Baseball America in 2006, Crawford gained All-Pac-10 honors in 2007 after having been named an honorable mention All-Pac-10 selection as a freshman. Last spring, he tied for the team lead with 24 multi-hit games and hit safely in 50 of the Bruins' 61 games.
Crawford enters his junior campaign with a .327 career average, 13 home runs, 31 doubles, eight triples, 18 stolen bases, 85 RBI and 92 runs.
The 2008 Preseason NCBWA All-America Teams feature 10 Pac-10 student-athletes, the most of any conference in the nation. Nine players from the Southeastern Conference are listed, and the ACC features six preseason All-Americans.
