Meister Reaches Quarterfinals at Sherwood

Thousand Oaks, Calif. - Senior men's tennis player Nick Meister won two singles matches on Friday to earn a spot in Saturday's quarterfinals at the 2012 Sherwood Collegiate Cup in Thousand Oaks, Calif.

Meister, the tournament's No. 5 seed, opened up his day with a 4-6, 6-2, 6-3 victory over USC freshman Johnny Wang. He then notched a 6-2, 6-1 win over Stanford's Denis Lin in the second round. Awaiting Meister in the quarterfinals is top-seeded Steve Johnson of USC. The two players will meet on Saturday at 11:30 a.m.

Clay Thompson and Maxime Tabatruong both won their first-round matches on Friday but ended up falling in the second round. Thompson lost to USC's Raymond Sarmiento, 6-2, 6-2, and Tabatruong was ousted by USC's Daniel Nguyen, 7-6(4), 6-4.

Doubles play begins on Saturday.
